3 hours well spent.
So I’m pretty new to tumblr, but that’s kind of irrelevant. I’m looking through a few posts, and I keep coming across these banks of .gif’s Usually about 9 or 10 of them at a time, always depicting some brief moment of TV or film, sometimes a snappy one-liner, sometimes a long drawn out joke, but always with the same result: Me looking at it and saying to myself:

“Who the fuck laughs at this?”
Really, if you wanted to see something that was on TV, couldn’t you just watch the show? It seems the quality of humor everywhere is just taking a short walk off a steep cliff. For every great piece of comedy, there are 20 hacks just waiting to rip it off and kill it. For every ‘Community’, there are 20 people who have cut and pasted 4 seconds of film into 20 irritating .gif’s and slathered them all over the internet.
This comedic degradation extends well past the internet. There are really only a few good comedians left. Your Ricky Gervais’, your Carl Barron’s. What the majority of the huddle is made up of are half-arsed TV comedians like Wil Anderson. Remember that joke where he tells a short story and then screams the punchline? You should. It’s every joke he ever tells.

“Raise your hand if you like foreplay. Ok, now raise your hand if you like fingering. YOU FUCKING HYPOCRITES! THEY ARE THE SAME FUCKING THING!”
It feels good to know that the first thing I post is about something I hate.

I’ve not a lot to do in my time between working and sleeping, so I’ve decided that each week I’ll pick a band, and listen to nothing but them for the entire time, sharing my thoughts and feelings on them as I go. This week is U2. So far I’ve been through:
-Boy (1980)
-October (1981)
-War (1983)
-The Unforgettable Fire (1984)
-Wide Awake in America (1985)
-The Joshua Tree (1988)
As of writing that list, I’ve just begun “Achtung Baby” (1991).
This is the point where they stop being so melancholy, and start becoming a proper rock group. Here’s ‘Desire’
